Energy Regulatory Services

The attorneys in Thompson Hine’s Energy practice focus on helping clients navigate the complex and dynamic regulatory landscape to achieve their business goals.

We routinely advise large industrial energy customers, independent power producers, and regulated and non-regulated utilities on a broad range of local, state, regional and federal regulatory issues. We help clients obtain permits and licenses for facilities, certificates of public convenience and necessity, siting authorizations, service area determinations, and other regulatory approvals for energy projects, operations and investments.

Our Energy lawyers regularly represent clients before state public utility commissions, regional transmission organizations, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). We have represented clients in connection with utility tariff and rate schedule filings; gas pipeline filings; utility asset transfers; certification of facilities, exempt wholesale generators and foreign utility companies; compliance filings; enforcement proceedings; and participation in rulemaking and policymaking proceedings. Our experience also includes representation before FERC and the Departments of Energy and Transportation on issues related to gas pipeline certification, natural gas storage, industrial gas use, hydropower projects, and pipeline safety.
