Peter is a partner in the Business Litigation and Energy practice groups and the firm’s Head of Energy Disputes. He focuses on national and international dispute risk management and resolution and advising on issues of public international law, in which he has a doctoral degree. He has experience as counsel with all the major arbitration procedures and institutions, and he is an experienced arbitrator listed on the American Arbitration Association’s Panel of International Arbitrators (Neutrals).

Peter advises private and public sector clients on a wide range of issues relating to private and public international law, including issues of jurisdiction, immunity, enforcement, expropriation, the Law of the Sea, treaty law, and State responsibility. He has extensive experience representing sovereign parties, including States, state-owned entities, and intergovernmental organizations, before domestic and international courts and tribunals. The author of the highly acclaimed book Arbitration of International Disputes in New York (Juris, 2024), Peter is frequently sought after for his expertise in drafting arbitration clauses for international contracts and in conducting arbitration proceedings in New York and elsewhere. He also has experience representing corporate clients in cross-border commercial transactions and financings, particularly in the transportation and energy sectors.
