Thompson Hine LLP is pleased to announce that Tanya Nesbitt has joined the firm as a partner in its Environmental practice in Atlanta.
Nesbitt’s practice includes representing public and private clients under a multitude of federal and state laws with emphasis on environmental permitting, natural resource and land management and wildlife management. With over a decade of litigation experience in private practice and the federal government, she also has litigated complex environmental matters arising under NEPA, FLPMA, CERCLA and other federal resource management statutes.

She is a seasoned litigator, and her practice will be a great addition to the environmental work we are doing in the Southeast and EPA Region 4,” said Marla Butler, Thompson Hine’s office partner in charge in Atlanta. “Tanya’s expertise and addition are particularly timely, given the current regulatory environment, including the Biden administration’s focus on addressing policy changes made during the Trump administration and the rise in greenwashing litigation.”
Nesbitt’s experience includes serving as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Natural Resources Division, where she handled a diverse docket of natural resources matters, including representing the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service in Greater Sage-Grouse litigation. She also served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., where she handled 35 first-chair bench trials.

Nesbitt has received industry recognition, including from The National Black Lawyers 40 Under 40, and is the Co-Chair of Publications of the American Bar Association’s Public Land and Resources Committee of the Section of Environment, Energy and Resources. In 2018, she earned the Department of Justice Award for Outstanding Service.
Nesbitt earned her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and her B.A. from Smith College.
