Thompson Hine Selected as Finalist for ThinkAdvisor’s Law Firm Industry Disruption/Innovation Award

Thompson Hine LLP

Thompson Hine LLP, a law firm recognized for its innovation focus, announced that it has been named a finalist in the ThinkAdvisor 2025 Luminaries Awards in the law firm industry disruption/innovation category. Now in its fifth year, ThinkAdvisor’s Luminaries Awards redefine excellence in financial services, shining a spotlight on outstanding contributions from both organizations and individuals.

Thompson Hine is recognized for transforming venture capital fund formation through its innovative, AI-powered Fund in a Box toolset, launched within the firm’s Emerging Fund Managers Program. Addressing long-standing barriers of cost, complexity, and opacity, the solution streamlines every step of fund formation—from entity inception through closing—while providing clients real-time visibility, transparency, and predictable pricing. By systematizing workflows, automating document generation and compliance checks, and leveraging proprietary AI (including the firm’s Harvey AI), Fund in a Box enables managers to launch funds faster and more affordably than traditional market approaches.

Over the past year, the program has reduced standard fund launch costs from an industry norm of approximately $650,000 to about $150,000 or less for typical funds and accelerated timelines by up to 500%, cutting an average six-week process to roughly a week and a half. This technology-driven model has increased Thompson Hine’s fund formation capacity nearly fivefold and supported successful launches for diverse managers, including Break Trail Ventures Fund III, Future Heritage Fund I, and LaunchNY Fund II.

The initiative is led by partner Lindsay Karas Stencel, chair of the Fund Formation subgroup, whose dual perspective as fund counsel and active venture capitalist informs a practical, market-savvy approach. Her leadership has helped expand VC ecosystems beyond traditional hubs, advancing entrepreneurship and economic growth in regions such as upstate New York, Atlanta, Missouri, and throughout the Midwest. “Fund in a Box is about leveling the playing field for emerging managers—bringing speed, transparency, and cost certainty to a process that historically kept too many on the sidelines,” said Karas Stencel. “This recognition affirms that practical innovation can expand access to capital and strengthen venture ecosystems nationwide.”
