I am counsel in the firm’s Privacy &amp; Cybersecurity group. I have a background in assisting startup clients as outside corporate counsel, as well as advising on privacy. At Thompson Hine, I focus on advising U.S. and international companies on a wide range of privacy and cybersecurity issues, including compliance with privacy and security laws in the EU (GDPR) and the United States (CCPA/CPRA, CPA, VCDPA, etc.). In addition to drafting public-facing privacy policies, drafting terms of service and internal privacy frameworks, and negotiating privacy and tech contracts, I advise startups on integrating “privacy by design” into their early operations to avoid future risk and costs as the company grows. I also counsel clients on breach notification laws and help them create compliant response plans that address the required administrative, physical, and technical steps.

Supporting Our Veterans: Military Influencer Conference

This month, New Ventures attorney <a href="https://www.thompsonhine.com/professionals/jasmin-hurley/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Jasmin Hurley</a> journeyed to Las Vegas to attend the Military Influencer Conference for the second time. While there, Jasmin presented “Burning Legal Questions for Startups” as part of the conference’s Innovation Track. The breakout session covered such issues as when to consult an attorney, the dangers of nonexistent or improper agreements, how entrepreneurs can identify and protect their brand and content, and bootstrapping versus VC funding. Jasmin also connected with current and potential clients across the military community. This year’s was the fifth Military Influencer Conference, which is the largest gathering of leaders, service members, military spouses, executives, entrepreneurs and brands in the military space. The conference focuses on strengthening connections and fostering collaboration for the success of veterans, service members and their families. Thompson Hine Sponsors Launch NY Founders and Investors Breakfast

Earlier this month, the Thompson Hine New Ventures team sponsored the Launch NY Founders and Investors Breakfast. <a href="https://www.thompsonhine.com/professionals/lindsay-karas-stencel/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lindsay Karas Stencel</a> participated in a panel discussion with <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/anne-greven/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Anne Greven</a>, <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/robert-poltrino-12868059/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Robert Poltrino</a> and <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/marnie-lavigne-ph-d-9a74b35/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Marnie LaVigne, Ph.D.</a> on VC trends in agricultural technology and how AgTech can be a key component to relieving climate damage. The event was very well attended and it was great to see so many people supporting the upstate venture ecosystem.

Launch NY is a nonprofit venture development organization with a mission to identify, support and invest in high‐growth, high‐impact companies to catalyze the entrepreneurial culture of the 27 counties of upstate New York through regional collaboration with ecosystem partners.

Starting January 1, 2024, the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) will go into effect. The CTA will require all “reporting companies” to disclose certain information about their beneficial owners to FinCEN. A more detailed explanation of the CTA will be featured in our December newsletter.
