Brittain Shaw, partner in Thompson Hine’s White Collar Defense & Investigations practice, has been selected as one of the top 100 female lawyers in investigations by Global Investigations Review (GIR). This annual survey showcases leading women in white collar investigations from around the globe.
Shaw was recognized for her work in numerous high-profile white collar cases, ranging from financial crime matters to national security and cybersecurity matters to public corruption. Shaw spent nearly two decades as a federal prosecutor, first as an assistant U.S. attorney and later as a prosecutor in the Fraud Section at the U.S. Department of Justice and an assistant Special Counsel. In those roles, Shaw was routinely selected for some of the most challenging and high-profile cases based on her exceptional prosecutorial and advocacy skills.
Based in Thompson Hine’s New York office, Shaw represents corporate and individual clients in criminal and regulatory investigations, white collar criminal defense, trade crimes defense, such as criminal sanctions and export violations, and compliance matters.
When asked by Global Investigations Review what recent developments in investigations will continue to be relevant in five years, Shaw said:
Without question, we will still be talking about the new administration’s complete ‘reboot’ of the Department of Justice’s enforcement priorities and agenda. The ambitious agenda to eliminate cartels and the redirection of resources to pursue them as foreign terrorist organizations will give rise to novel prosecutions in the white-collar crime space, such as matters involving financing, money laundering and trade with cartels. These types of cases are complex in nature and the evidence takes time to develop and will likely span several years.
