The North American railroad industry could face increased regulatory pressures following the recent Senate confirmation of two commissioners to the Surface Transportation Board. Three of the five STB board seats are now filled. Shippers have been more vocal about rail service following the rollout of precision scheduled railroading across a number of Class I railroads. Shippers also want the STB to complete several delayed proceedings on competitive switching, exemptions, and other reforms. This could create increased regulatory risks for the railroad industry.
