On July 1, 2020, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will replace the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). This trilateral free trade agreement will affect many facets of the North American economy. Please join us weekly for our four-part virtual roundtable series as we help you navigate the USMCA provisions affecting companies and understand the rights and obligations of the member countries. Our discussions will include counsel from law firms in the United States, Mexico and Canada and representatives from companies addressing these issues firsthand.

Session 2 – USMCA’s New Government Procurement Commitments

The USMCA significantly revises the NAFTA’s government procurement provisions, excluding, for example, procurement commitments from Canada. Our panel will discuss the various USMCA provisions related to government procurement and what it means for companies trying to take advantage of USMCA benefits. In addition, we will discuss how the USMCA changes government procurement opportunities for Canada, how the WTO Government Procurement Agreement (GPA) will be applied, differences between the two agreements, and how the USMCA government procurement provisions will affect future free trade agreements.
