Notice of Public Hearing — United States Rail Service Issues

Transportation Update

Date: April 03, 2014

In response to rail service problems currently experienced by shippers throughout the United States, the Surface Transportation Board (Board) will hold a public hearing on April 10, 2014 in Washington, D.C. The Board is monitoring rail industry performance metrics and is particularly concerned with the BNSF Railway (BNSF) and Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) systems.

The Board has directed executive-level officials from BNSF and CP to attend the hearing to discuss current and future efforts to return service to normal levels. Because BNSF and CP system problems are causing issues with all carriers in the Chicago area, other Class I railroads are invited to appear at the hearing.

The Board encourages impacted shippers to participate. The deadline for filing a notice of intent to participate, identifying the party and the proposed speaker, is April 7, 2014.
