The law firm of Thompson Hine LLP today announced that Anthony C. White will become the new Partner-in-Charge of the firm's Columbus office. White will succeed Thomas J. Bonasera, who will be stepping down after a four-year term to focus on his rapidly growing fiduciary litigation and estate planning practice with the firm. The effective date of the transition will be June 1; over the next few months, White and Bonasera will work together to transition overall responsibility for managing and leading the office.
"I look forward to taking the reins and expanding our presence here in Columbus," says White, a trial attorney who focuses his practice on complex business litigation. "Columbus is one of the fastest growing markets in the state, and we intend to help our clients and our firm capitalize on this growth."
With nearly 100 lawyers, paralegals and supporting staff, the Columbus office of Thompson Hine is one of the top ten firms in the Columbus market. Regarding his strategies for continued growth, White explains, "Our firm, and this office in particular, has significant strength in business litigation, as well as construction and real estate. I plan to build on these strengths by recruiting top talent into these and other areas that can provide the greatest value to our clients."
"I would also like to see a greater emphasis on diversity, not just in this office, but throughout the legal community here in Columbus," continues White. An active member of the Columbus, Ohio, and American Bar Associations, White adds, "I plan to leverage my role as Partner-in-Charge to make significant positive changes in this area."
White, age 37, was born in Washington, D.C. He moved to Columbus in 1975 at the age of eight. White received his law degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1993. He received his B.S. degrees in Marketing and Finance from The Ohio State University, where he was a member of the OSU varsity basketball team from 1985 – 1989, serving as team captain in 1989. He was named to the Academic All-Big-Ten Team in 1988 and 1989. White remains a very active OSU alumnus, serving as secretary of The Ohio State University Men's Varsity "O" Board and The OSU Alumni Advisory Council representing The Ohio State University Office of Health Services. White continues to be active with OSU basketball, serving as the on-air basketball analyst for 610 WTVN-AM.
"I am very excited for Tony in his new role," explains Bonasera, who has served as Partner-in-Charge of the Columbus office since 2001. "I helped bring Tony to this firm. He is an exceptional lawyer and an outstanding individual. I know he will do great things for this office." Bonasera, a past president of both the Columbus Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association, is active in numerous community and charitable organizations including The American Red Cross, Franklin County ADAMH Board, Franklin County Legal Aid Society, Alzheimer's Association, and Ronald McDonald House, where he currently serves as president. He also served on the Ohio Supreme Court's Racial Fairness Taskforce chaired by Judge Ron Adrine and the Racial Fairness Implementing Commission chaired by Judge Algenon Marbley.
This announcement is the latest in a series of strategic moves for Thompson Hine, a 350-lawyer firm serving an impressive roster of global corporate clients. Just last month, the firm announced the opening of its new office in Atlanta, as well as the formation of a new Life Sciences practice group. The new Atlanta office now brings the total number of offices to eight.
"Columbus is clearly an important market for our firm, and we are prepared to enhance our investment here," adds David J. Hooker, Managing Partner of Thompson Hine. "Tony is a great leader and very forward-looking strategic thinker; I look forward to working with him as he assumes overall responsibility for managing and growing our Columbus office."
