Jake represents individuals and corporate entities – from successful small companies to Fortune 100 corporations – in high-stakes, complex litigation. His practice is national in scope and consists of litigating in state courts, federal courts and various alternative dispute resolution forums across the country. Jake consistently obtains favorable outcomes for clients, from early dismissals and settlements to verdicts, in business litigation disputes involving breach of contract and fiduciary duties, restrictive covenants, business dissolutions, partnerships and joint ventures, derivative corporate claims, note defaults and workouts, and intellectual property. He has also successfully defended fuel gas companies and pharmaceutical, medical device and automotive manufacturers in high-exposure product liability cases.

Jake has significant experience representing emerging companies and serves as outside counsel for many startup and mid-sized companies. Having considerable experience representing capitally sensitive companies, Jake carefully balances providing sufficient legal protection with ensuring adequate resources are available to push a company’s product to market. This balance is parlayed with Jake’s litigation background to provide a unique, dispute-avoidance focus.

Jake’s government services practice involves the representation of municipalities, state agencies and community boards in federal and state courts. He has also represented individuals and corporate entities (both nonprofit and for-profit) before government administrative agencies.

Other Professional Capacities. Georgia Governor Nathan Deal appointed Jake to the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission (formerly the State Ethics Commission), a quasi-judicial body overseeing the ethical and reporting compliance of candidates for state and local elected office. Jake serves on the Young Leaders Council of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta and is president of the Atlanta Young Republicans, the largest YR organization in the country. Jake also serves on the boards of directors for the Atlanta Council of Younger Lawyers and the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the Georgia Bar.

Three consecutive Georgia State Bar presidents have appointed Jake to bar committees, including the Georgia Civil Indigent Services Task Force, the Georgia Bar Journal Editorial Board and the Professionalism Committee. Jake is a graduate of the 2014 YLD Leadership Academy, which aims to select and develop future leaders of the Georgia Bar. From 2015 to 2017, he chaired the YLD Litigation Committee, growing it to the largest and most active committee of the YLD. The YLD awarded Jake both the 2017 Award of Achievement and the 2017 Winter Star of the Quarter for his successes with the Litigation Committee.

Jake is a member of the LEAD Atlanta Class of 2018, a graduate of the 2017 Leadership Buckhead Class, and he has been inducted into both the Lumpkin Inn of Court and the Lamar Inn of Court as a barrister.

Jake frequently writes and speaks on legal and political issues, and he has appeared on many radio and television broadcasts.

Jake attended the University of Georgia, graduating with summa cum laude honors and earning a perfect 4.0 GPA seven out of his eight semesters. Thereafter, he attended the University of Georgia School of Law, graduating with cum laude honors.
