Brussels is the capital of Belgium. With its central location, high productivity, multilingual culture and transportation network, Belgium traditionally has been very aggressive and successful in attracting foreign businesses, particularly American companies. There are more than 2,000 foreign companies in Belgium, of which more than 1,200 are American.

Brussels is known as the "Capital of Europe." The European Union, the political and economic union of 15 member states in Europe, has most of its institutions in Brussels including the European Commission, the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament. Additionally, Brussels is the headquarters of NATO, the Western European Union, the Customs Cooperation Counsel and more than 50 other intergovernmental organizations, creating a multilingual, multicultural city that is the administrative and political center of continental Europe.
