Professional Experience
Troy is a registered patent attorney and partner in the Intellectual Property and Life Sciences practice groups. His practice ranges across all facets of intellectual property law, ranging from the initial identification, protection and procurement to the transfer and enforcement of intellectual property rights. Specific examples of Troy's practice include drafting and prosecution of patent, trademark and copyright registration in the U.S. and internationally; assessment and evaluation of intellectual property portfolios for acquisition or sale; drafting and negotiation of a wide range of agreements involving intellectual property rights such as clinical trial agreements, joint development agreements, intellectual property license agreements, software license agreements, and outsourcing agreements; and, litigation of patent infringement claims.
Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Troy practiced for a number of years as an engineer. Troy's masters research also involved human subjects testing at a major medical research center. Immediately prior to joining Thompson Hine, Troy was Vice President of Technology for Orbital Research, Inc., an award winning technology based startup company. Troy is also a named inventor on over 25 patents ranging from micro-devices, and fuel cells to medical devices and aerodynamic control systems.
Troy is admitted to practice in the states of Ohio and New York, before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
Technical Experience
Troy has a wide range of experience as both an engineer and a patent attorney across a number of engineering disciplines, and has specific experience in a number of technology fields, including: medical devices and diagnostic equipment; microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) devices including sensors and actuators, micro-fabrication techniques, device packaging, fuel cells, aerosol drug delivery systems; electro-physiological monitoring; clinical trial management for medical device development; feedback control systems and expert systems ranging from predictive adaptive, non-linear, and stochastic controls to fuzzy logic and neural network based controllers; distributed control systems; signals and systems analysis including filter design and optical processing; software systems and software applications; electro-mechanical hardware; robotics and compliant handling of materials; centrifugal separation devices; satellite systems; metal-ceramic composites; bearings; and, aerodynamic systems including distributed aerodynamic control systems and autopilots.
