Professional Experience

Mike is an associate in the firm's Intellectual Property practice group. He focuses his practice on all aspects of intellectual property law, including patent prosecution and litigation, trademark litigation, intellectual property licensing, copyright registration and infringement, infringement matters and patentability opinions. Mike also has experience with complex litigation and dispute resolution concerning contracts and other business transactions and relationships.

Prior to joining Thompson Hine, Mike was a consultant for both Andersen Consulting and IBM.

Mike is admitted to practice in the state of Ohio, and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is also admitted before the District Court of Ohio, Northern District and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Technical Experience
As a former software programmer, designed and implemented user applications. Additionally, involved in reengineering the logistics of a 1.1 million square foot distribution center.

Mike has worked with applications directed to the design, development and implementation of various computer software systems; e-commerce systems; business methods; and mechanical products including couplers, a mobile platform mill, modular furniture, and belt tensioners for front end accessory drive systems.

  • Representing clients in obtaining patents for various software systems; e-commerce systems; business methods; and mechanical products.

  • Representing client in copyright infringement matter.
  • Representing clients in developing protection strategies for proprietary intellectual property assets, licensing and assignment of intellectual property.
  • Representing major financial institution in breach of contract matter involving one of the largest title companies in the United States.
  • Representing major financial institution in several breach of contract matters involving several boat dealers and finance companies.
  • Representing major financial institution and equipment leasing company in a tax controversy with the IRS involving a cross-border leveraged lease transaction.
  • Representing international chemical manufacturer in connection with indemnification claims concerning contamination from a chemical plant in Houston.
