Professional Experience

Emily practices in the Environmental and Product Liability Litigation practice groups. She focuses her practice on environmental counseling and litigation, environmental compliance and regulatory analysis, planning for business transactions, toxic tort and product liability litigation, and maritime litigation and counseling.

Emily is admitted to practice in Ohio and Virginia. She is also admitted before the District Court for the Northern District of Ohio and the District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

  • Second chair in admiralty personal injury federal jury trial that resulted in a defense verdict.
  • Second chair on trial team that won a federal jury verdict for a Fortune 500 client in a product liability negligence claim.
  • Prepared and defended multiple maritime seamen's personal injury claims through early trial stages.
  • Defended chemical industry client in toxic tort class action litigation.
  • Defended large industrial clients in RCRA, nuisance and trespass litigation.
  • Deposed and defended medical and scientific expert depositions in seamen's personal injury claims.
  • Represented various chemical and manufacturing industry clients at Superfund sites across the country.
  • Defended manufacturing client in wrongful death lawsuit.
  • Defended manufacturing and distributor clients against California Proposition 65 Litigation.
  • Assisted in preparation for a bench trial defending environmental cost recovery claims asserted pursuant to the New Jersey Spill Act.
  • Represented trade group clients in maritime environmental administrative and other regulatory proceedings.
  • Taken and defended numerous fact witness depositions.
  • Defended multiple manufacturing industry clients in large Superfund site allocation mediation.
  • Regulatory and Compliance
  • Counseled maritime trade groups regarding compliance with environmental laws, particularly with respect to the Clean Water Act and related state and federal regulations.
  • Assisted in counseling manufacturing clients regarding environmental compliance and permitting, particularly with respect to the Clean Air Act, FIFRA, RCRA and CERCLA.
  • Transactions
  • Counseled manufacturing companies on various environmental compliance and permitting issues under CAA, CWA, RCRA, TSCA, EPCRA, DOT regulations and state environmental laws.
  • Counseled clients on underground storage tank liability and regulatory compliance in connection with real estate transactions.
  • Counseled clients on property transfer regulatory compliance, particularly in the state of New Jersey under the Industrial Site Recovery Act.
  • Conducted diligence and analysis of emerging air and climate change regulation pertaining to the power industry.
