Professional Experience

Arik is a partner in the Commercial and Public Finance practice group of Thompson Hine LLP.

Arik focuses his practice on public finance in a variety of capacities, including bond counsel, underwriter's counsel, borrower's counsel and credit enhancer's counsel in connection with the issuance of tax-exempt bonds and taxable obligations. His practice includes the financing of facilities for nonprofit and private users, including housing, healthcare, cultural and manufacturing facilities, which often involve the use of complex derivative products. He also represents real estate developers, municipalities and underwriters in various other forms of public financing transactions, including tax increment and pilot financings.

Arik also focuses on corporate finance and banking, including the representation of lenders and borrowers in connection with the financing of capital projects and working capital loans, and the restructuring and workout of non-performing loans.

  • Bond counsel in connection with the issuance of $16,000,000 of tax-exempt economic development revenue bonds for the financing of the Polar Frontier exhibit for the Columbus Zoo, the Columbus Area Business First 2009 Transaction of the Year
  • Bond counsel in connection with the issuance of over $60,000,000 of tax-exempt multifamily housing revenue bonds for two multifamily residential projects on the 27-acre, multi-use University Park at MIT campus in Central Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts
  • Developer's counsel in connection with the tax-exempt bond financing of over $600 million in public infrastructure necessary for the mixed use redevelopment of the Stapleton Airport in Denver, Colorado, the largest new urbanist project in the United States
  • Developer's counsel in connection with the issuance of over $50,000,000 of tax increment revenue bonds for the public infrastructure improvements necessary for the renovation of the historic 523-foot Mercantile Tower in Dallas, Texas
  • Developer's counsel and underwriter's counsel in connection with the remarketing of over $85,000,000 of tax-exempt revenue bonds for the financing of the preservation and conversion of the historic former tobacco industry factories/warehouses in the Tobacco Row district in Richmond, Virginia into apartments and commercial/office space
  • Bond counsel in connection with the issuance of over $30,000,000 of tax-exempt economic development revenue bonds for the construction of the Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center in Dayton, Ohio
  • Bond counsel in connection with the issuance of $14,000,000 of tax-exempt variable rate limited obligation revenue bonds for the construction of the Montgomery County Job Center in Dayton, Ohio
  • Counsel to the bank providing a letter of credit to support over $28,000,000 of tax-exempt health care facilities revenue bonds for the construction and equipping of a new hospital campus for a regional hospital in northwest Ohio
  • Counsel for the bank group providing financing for a portion of the costs of the Dayton Dragons Baseball Stadium
