The recent relaxation of U.S. government sanctions against Cuba presents an opportunity for U.S. businesses to enter a new and geographically accessible market. However, numerous limitations remain in effect and U.S. companies weighing business opportunities in Cuba must closely examine the existing U.S. regulations as well as the Cuban legal and economic environment before proceeding. Questions also remain as to how contractual and other obligations will be enforced if a commercial opportunity goes awry.
Please join us for a live briefing and webinar on the real-world implications of sanctions relief for U.S. companies who wish to conduct business in Cuba, followed by a Q&A focusing on the legal and practical parameters businesses face. Thompson Hine attorneys Richard A. De Palma, Brent Connor and Samir D. Varma, and Jennifer Vanderhart, managing director at FTI Consulting, will address your questions and discuss the following topics:
- The opportunities, restrictions and risks associated with the easing of sanctions by the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS);
- What investors and businesses can expect from the Cuban market; and
- An overview of the arbitration process and recent enforcement of awards.
Please register online to participate either in person or via webinar. For those participating via webinar, login information will be sent to you via email before the program. Attendees joining in person are invited to stay for a happy hour networking reception immediately following the briefing.
