Summer Law Clerks - Testimonials

Rebecca Bailey – Dayton

I had a terrific experience as a summer law clerk at Thompson Hine. The summer program provided the summer law clerks with challenging work assignments, fun social outings, and valuable feedback. I enjoyed working on sophisticated assignments with bright, intelligent attorneys who provided me with support and positive, constructive criticism. The decision to return to Thompson Hine upon graduation came easily for two reasons: I truly enjoyed the work, and I truly enjoyed the people with whom I worked.

It is important to feel both comfortable and inspired at work. I found this at Thompson Hine. The camaraderie among my colleagues far exceeds that of any team that I have been on. From partner to summer law clerk, everyone is genuinely interested in the personal and professional success of their colleagues. Additionally, with such a high level of sheer legal expertise and vigor among the more senior associates and partners, a young associate cannot help but aspire to reach that same level of professionalism. It is extremely refreshing to be among the most pleasant and skilled attorneys in the area.

All firms will tell you they value summer law cllerk mentoring, but Thompson Hine showed me that they took the commitment to their summer law clerks seriously. As I worked on projects over the summer, I received helpful feedback every step of the way. Because of that, I was able to improve the skills I will later come to rely on as an attorney. I felt like everyone at the firm was happy to answer my questions and took a genuine interest in my development. Both partners and associates were accessible and showed they were eager to help me learn. And, of course, my advisor was there every step of the way, encouraging me to excel. The lawyers at Thompson Hine not only served as work mentors, but they also jumped at the chance to give helpful advice on law school and life outside of work. They showed me their dedication to pro bono work and community service. With their guidance, I feel not only prepared for a life in law but for life in the greater community as well.

Beginning with the recruiting process and throughout my two summers at Thompson Hine, I was continually impressed by the firm's atmosphere of warm professionalism and its evident commitment to both work and people. During my time at Thompson Hine, I had the opportunity to work side-by-side with dedicated and well-rounded professionals, while also getting to know them personally through the many planned and impromptu social events. After working directly with both partners and associates, and within multiple practice areas, it is clear that the quality of the people and the work extends to all corners of the firm. Thompson Hine is an exciting place to start a career, and I look forward to returning next fall.

As a summer law clerk at Thompson Hine, you really get a feel for the firm culture in addition to what it is like to be an associate. Of the many positive features that Thompson Hine has to offer, the one aspect that stood out in my mind was the people. In addition to being a top-notch firm with highly regarded practice groups, Thompson Hine has exceptional attorneys and a remarkable staff that are always willing to lend a helping hand or give the necessary advice when needed. The people of Thompson Hine are one of the main reasons why I am so excited about starting as a law clerk in the fall.

Thompson Hine allows its summer and young law clerks to take control of their careers from day one. The firm's focus on developing its young lawyers and serving its clients enables one to go as far as he or she desires. After completing my summer, I have been able to work as a law clerk during my third year of law school. This opportunity has allowed me to jumpstart my career by continuing to learn and develop relationships while finishing my law school studies.
